5 Rules For Meeting Deadlines
We’re all faced with deadlines at some point, some of us far more frequently on others, and it’s important not to get into the habit of missing them. To be successful and hit the goals we set ourselves, it’s important to create schedules that allow us to keep on track. Here are some essential rules that will allow you to meet every deadline.
Get Your Team Working Effectively
Most project work will involve working within a team. This is much more effective when every one in the team is allowed to work towards their strengths. It’s important that the right people are on the right tasks, otherwise you’re just setting yourself up for delay and an influx of needless problems.
Get it right the first time by making sure you have a well researched plan. Know exactly what it is that you’re trying to accomplish, and every step it’s going to take to get there. Then make sure this is communicated effectively amongst the team so everyone knows what needs to be done and you’re all on the same page.
Not only do you need to communicate the initial plan, you also need to keep lines of communication open at all times so you can keep up on the progress of each of your team members. If a snag is hit along the way, someone might be free to turn their attention to it as well – ironing out creases as they appear.
Don’t try to do everything yourself. If you’re struggling with the workload, or it makes sense for someone to take one of your tasks and vice versa, make sure to take advantage of this. You need to make sure that no one person is overburdened, otherwise they will struggle to get anything done at all.
Creating milestones for the team lets you celebrate achievements as you reach them, allows you to stick to your plan and also gets everyone excited about reaching the next milestone rather than focussing solely on the end.
