Many of us dream of avoiding daily commutes, office politics and forced small talk with colleagues. Nowadays it’s more than possible to make that dream a reality. Recent research has shown that 50% of the US workforce holds a job that is compatible with at least partial telework and approximately 20-25% of the workforce teleworks at some frequency. 80% to 90% of the US workforce says they would like to telework at least part time – Two to three days a week seems to be the sweet spot that allows for a balance of concentrative work (at home) and collaborative work (at the office). Companies seem to be listening, Fortune 1000 companies around the globe are entirely revamping their space around the fact that employees are already mobile. Studies repeatedly show they are not at their desk 50-60% of the time.
Employers are recognising the benefits of letting employees work from home at least some, if not all, of the work week. They save money on expenses, renting office space and much more. Studies have also indicated that a person that works from home can be up to twice as productive as someone in an office. It’s a win win for everyone and with a lot of positions you get to choose what hours suit you best to work. This is fantastic for those people who have other commitments such as school runs etc.
